This observational registry collects and stores blood samples, DNA/RNA, family history, and demographic information to support research into neurodegenerative diseases. It includes adults with age-related or inherited neurodegenerative conditions, their family members, and people without known neurological disease as controls. Participants are followed from enrollment until death, withdrawal, end of funding, or for up to 600 months.
What it is studying. The study is building and maintaining a repository of biological samples and linked data to enable research into the molecular and genetic basis and risk factors of age-related and inherited neurodegenerative diseases.
What the researchers hope to learn. Scientific goals: contribute to and sustain a repository of biological samples and data; collect and bank data and biospecimens to support research; include people who cannot join other protocols; extend analysis, maintenance, and sharing of existing data and samples to advance understanding of the molecular and genetic drivers and risk factors of neurodegenerative diseases.
What this study is about
The study's own summary, as published on ClinicalTrials.gov. Underlined terms have a short explanation.
The aim of this study is to contribute to and continue to sustain a repository of blood samples, nucleic acid (DNA and/or RNA) samples, family history information, and other demographic information from individuals with age-related neurodegenerative conditions, or their family members who may or may not be at risk for similar conditions. This study will continue to further expand research into the molecular and genetic basis of these diseases and their risk factors.
Eligibility
The criteria exactly as listed on ClinicalTrials.gov. Only the study team can say whether they apply to you.
Inclusion criteria
- People with a clinical diagnosis of a neurodegenerative disease including, but not limited to Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), primary progressive aphasia (PPA), limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy (LATE), corticobasal syndrome (CBS), posterior cortical atrophy (PCA), primary lateral sclerosis (PLS), primary muscular atrophy (PMA), or individuals with a suspected neurodegenerative dementia and/or movement disorder of unknown etiology will be considered for enrollment
- Family Members of individuals who meet the criteria of group 1, who are people who may or may not be at risk for a similar neurodegenerative disease, who may or may not be symptomatic, and who may or may not have known or unknown genetic risk.
- People with no known neurological disease who will provide control data.
Exclusion criteria
- Anyone who is under the age of 18.
- Anyone with a condition or in a situation which, in the investigator's opinion, could confound the study findings or may interfere significantly with a person's participation, including but not limited to neurological, psychological, and other medical conditions (such as cardiac, neurosurgical, infectious conditions).

Participants provide blood and nucleic acid (DNA and/or RNA) samples and give family history and other demographic or health information. Data and biospecimens are collected and stored in a repository and may be shared with collaborating biobanks or used in other research; participants may be co‑enrolled in external protocols. Participants are followed long term—from enrollment until death, withdrawal, end of funding, or up to 600 months. The registry record does not list specific visit schedules or other procedures.
How the study is structured. This is an observational cohort registry (a natural history-type study). Participants provide blood and nucleic acid (DNA and/or RNA) samples and family and demographic information; these data and samples are stored locally and may be shared with collaborating biobanks. Participants are followed over time and may be co-enrolled in other approved research protocols; no experimental treatments are assigned.
Questions you could ask
These questions are suggestions for a conversation with the study team or your own clinician, not advice.
- This is an observational study, so the study itself gives no treatment. What would taking part involve for me, and would it change my usual care?
- The listed sites are in United States. Is any of them reachable for me, and does the study help with travel?
- Which of the eligibility criteria would need to be checked with tests before I could join?

Sponsor and research team
The lead sponsor funds and oversees the trial. A pharmaceutical or biotech company sponsor typically means the study is testing that company's drug or device; a hospital, university, or government agency usually indicates investigator-initiated or publicly funded research.

- enrollment
- The number of participants a study plans to include, or has included. 'Estimated' means the planned number; 'actual' means the number who joined.
- Inclusion Criteria
- The conditions a person must meet to be considered for the study, for example a confirmed diagnosis, an age range or a test result.
- Exclusion Criteria
- The conditions that rule a person out even if they meet the inclusion criteria, for example other illnesses, certain medicines or pregnancy.
