This observational registry collects medical information from people with Primary Hyperoxaluria, Dent Disease, Cystinuria, or APRT Deficiency. Doctors or clinic staff enter secure, coded data about symptoms, lab values, kidney function, and health over time into a web-based database. The goal is to combine records from many patients to compare how these diseases present and progress.

What it is studying. Assembling and analyzing clinical records to describe symptom patterns, disease course, and differences among these four hereditary kidney stone diseases.

What the researchers hope to learn. To establish and expand patient registries, collaborate with patient organizations for information sharing, improve understanding of symptoms and disease progression, and create a data resource that can support development of future research and treatments.

What this study is about

The study's own summary, as published on ClinicalTrials.gov. Underlined terms have a short explanation.

The purpose of this study is to collect medical information from a large number of patients in many areas of the world with primary hyperoxaluria (PH), Dent disease, Cystinuria and APRT deficiency. This information will create a registry that will help us to compare similarities and differences in patients and their symptoms. The more patients we are able to enter into the registry, the more we will be able to understand the Primary Hyperoxalurias,Dent disease, cystinuria and APRT and learn better ways of caring for patients with these diseases.

Eligibility

The criteria exactly as listed on ClinicalTrials.gov. Only the study team can say whether they apply to you.

Inclusion criteria

  • Individuals must have a definitive diagnosis of Primary Hyperoxaluria, Dent Disease, Cystinuria or APRT Deficiency.
  • Individuals have a family history of a sibling with Primary Hyperoxaluria,Dent Disease, Cystinuria or APRT Deficiency.

Exclusion criteria

  • Individuals who do not have Primary Hyperoxaluria, Dent Disease, Cystinuria or APRT Deficiency.

Study description and what participation involves

The study's detailed description, as published on ClinicalTrials.gov.

Detailed description from the registry

This study involves the collection of medical information to create a computer database or registry for patients with PH, Dent disease, cystinuria and APRT deficiency. The information will be entered into the registry by your physician or health care provider. The computer web site for the registry is secure and protected by a required password. Some information which will be entered may include your age at first symptoms of PH,Dent disease, cystinuria or APRT, laboratory values, kidney function and the progress of your health over time. Information for an individual patient can only be viewed by the appropriate physician or staff. Once the information is entered into the registry, you will only be identified by a code number.

Your physician or health care provider will enter medical information about you into a secure, password‑protected registry. The record may include age at first symptoms, laboratory values, kidney function, and how your health progresses over time. Your identity will be replaced by a code number so only authorized clinicians can view identifying details. The registry record does not specify any extra invasive procedures beyond collecting medical information from your chart.

How the study is structured. An observational cohort registry. Participating clinicians enter patients' medical information into a secure, password-protected website. Each patient is identified only by a code number; the registry collects and stores clinical data over time for later analysis.

Questions you could ask

These questions are suggestions for a conversation with the study team or your own clinician, not advice.

  • This is an observational study, so the study itself gives no treatment. What would taking part involve for me, and would it change my usual care?
  • The listed sites are in Iceland, United States. Is any of them reachable for me, and does the study help with travel?
  • Which of the eligibility criteria would need to be checked with tests before I could join?

registry
An organised collection of information about people with a particular condition, gathered over time for research. Joining a registry usually means sharing medical information, not receiving a treatment.
Inclusion Criteria
The conditions a person must meet to be considered for the study, for example a confirmed diagnosis, an age range or a test result.
Exclusion Criteria
The conditions that rule a person out even if they meet the inclusion criteria, for example other illnesses, certain medicines or pregnancy.
